Existing contributions define meta- and inter-images from a variety of disciplinary perspectives including art history, theory and criticism critical theory and phenomenology aesthetics and cognitive aesthetics word-and-image studies and semiotics. The volume does not operate with an a priori and unique definition of meta- and inter-images.
